Marcella Di Palo is a free-lance videographer and video-editor, working in Italy and anywhere she happens to be. She has been collaborating with Jon Jost since 2006, tutoring students of his workshops, editing some of his work, making the trailers for his films, taking care of his website and shooting or doing the sound for him when necessary.

 

She has been the videographer for the Festival Città delle 100 Scale in Potenza, Italy for their 5th edition in 2013 and has been working on her own video documentary projects.

 

In 2007-8 she made a full-length docu-fiction, Landing in the Morning Calm, on a group of young expats living in Seoul, South Korea.

In 2012-13 she made, together with Salvatore Laurenzana e Mimmo Nardozza, a short documentary Mal d'Agri, on oil-extraction in her native region, Basilicata.

 

In 2009 when living in Seoul, South Korea, she edited the short film “Happy Xmas”, by Korean filmmaker Whang Cheol Mean.

While in Italy, from 2011 to 2013 she did the camera and the DOP for the short Nascita di Botticelli by Luciano Pisani and worked in the production, as assistant, of the independent film Montedoro, by film director Antonello Faretta.

She also worked in workshop projects, documenting them, with the cultural association based in Potenza, Italy, La luna al Guinzaglio, whose core activity is to recicle and bring back to life objects that has been wasted.

And she did the organizational support for Radici e Percorsi su Matera e Dintorni, a collective exhibit of photographers and photo amateurs, with a special guest, Gianni Berengo Gardin. Marcella made video interviews that became a video installation within the exhibit.

 

In 2015-16 she traveled through the US with Jon Jost, shooting footage for a documentary on Jost's life and work, video-documenting their trip across the country and keeping a photoblog on Tumblr.

​Photography is one of her passions that sometimes can become a job.

In 2016 she worked on the editing of Inside, short story by Italian actress Eliana Miglio, presented at the BAFF SHORT CUTS 2017 (Busto Arsizio Film Festival).

In June 2017 Marcella finished editing Again & Again, a 93 minutes documentary on Korean choreographer Eun-me Ahn, shot by and co-directed with Jon Jost.
